Elementary OS 7.0, codenamed Horus, is now available for download. This release has a focus on making app installation and updates easier and more engaging, empowering users with new features and settings, and evolving their developer platform.

AppCenter, the operating system’s app store, has improved its responsiveness, navigation, and app descriptions with screenshots, recent releases, and resolved tickets. Operating system and app updates can now be installed offline, sideloading apps and using alternative stores are smoother, and web apps are supported.

The Feedback app has improved launch times, coverage, and keyboard navigation, and the installation and setup process is more informative.

One of the key features of OS 7 is the AppCenter. This is the center of the operating system, and its primary purpose is to support the apps that you use for work, play, and creativity. In this latest version, the AppCenter has been improved with more engaging app descriptions, easier updating of apps, and better support for sideloading and alternative stores. Additionally, the AppCenter has been made more responsive and easier to use, regardless of the display size.

Another major change in OS 7 is the improvement of app descriptions. In the new version, screenshots have been given more emphasis, and are now accompanied by captions. OS 7 also includes the latest version of GNOME Web 43, which supports the creation of web apps. These web apps can be managed from inside GNOME Web and have their own settings and privacy controls.

The Feedback app has also been improved in OS 7, with instant launch times, and better coverage of installed apps, settings, and desktop components. The Feedback app can now be accessed directly from the applications menu, and keyboard navigation and responsiveness have been improved for small displays.

The installation, initial setup, and onboarding process has been simplified in OS 7, with fewer screens and more information to help you make informed decisions. Issues that made the installer window too large to be interacted with on virtual machines have been resolved, and there is now a combined “Before You Install” page that includes warnings about virtual machines, the developer builds, and system requirements.
