How to Install Microsoft Fonts In Ubuntu Linux - By default, the fonts that we often use in Microsoft Word are not available on Linux. So that we cannot create document files that can be easily read by the Windows OS.

That happens because the font is owned by the Microsoft company and the font is not Open Source.

While we are currently using Linux which is in the realm of Open Source.

The fonts that will be installed in this tutorial are:

  • Times New Roman
  • Arial
  • Arial Black
  • Verdana
  • Comic Sans MS
  • Courier New
  • Georgia
  • Impact
  • Trebuchet
  • Verdana
  • Webdings
  • Tahoma (look at the bottom of this article)

How to Install Font Microsoft

Well, to be able to create documents on Linux that can also be easily read by Microsoft Word because it uses the same font.

This time I will share how to install the Microsoft font on Linux. Right now, I'm using Linux with Ubuntu based.

Now to install please open Terminal, then use the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository multiverse

After that, we update the repository with the command:

sudo apt update

Finally, we just installed the font  ubuntu linux, use the command:

sudo apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

A question like this will appear, then type Y and "Enter":

There will be a download process. Then after the download process is complete, the configuration display will appear like this:

Use the keyboard "Tab" to move the selection to <Ok> so that the color becomes red. then press "Enter". A display will appear like this:

Select <Yes> then "Enter". 

Now please open the Office application and see that the Microsoft font like Times New Roman, Arial, Arial Black, Verdana, Comic Sans MS, Courier New, Georgia, Impact, Trebuchet, Verdana, Webdings is already in the Font list.


How to Install Tahoma Font

To install this Tahoma font on Ubuntu Linux and other Debian variants is very easy. Please open a terminal and use the following command and "Enter":

wget https://gist.githubusercontent.com/maxwelleite/913b6775e4e408daa904566eb375b090/raw/ttf-ms-tahoma-installer.sh -q -O - | sudo bash

Done.
